Is This The Future of Coffee Shop Design?

With coffee shop design constantly evolving, we take a look at some of the industry’s most innovative tech from smartphone-controlled coffee machines to Café X, a robot operated coffee shop.

Last month, the Catersales team had the opportunity to visit the Caffé Culture Show 2017 at Olympia, Kensington. The show was host to an abundance of food and drink exhibitors but also innovative technologies including Top Brewer – the world’s first smartphone and tablet-controlled coffee machine.

Top Brewer is a bean-to-cup coffee machine serving a variety of espresso-based drinks at the touch of an app on your smartphone or tablet. The futuristic machine, which boasts the world’s smallest milk foamer, is built into counter tops with only the stylish curved dispensing tap visible. Users can adjust settings on the app including the amount of milk, coffee and number of cups to create a personalised beverage to suit individual needs.

Whilst Top Brewer is focused on coffee, it’s sister product – Top Juicer – offers a variety of equally delicious cold drinks.

Café X

Henry Hu is the founder of Café X, a fully mechanized coffee shop with locations in San Francisco and Hong Kong. Café X operates via a dedicated app and serves up caffeinated concoctions using an intelligent robotic arm.

The robot-operated coffee shop was built when founder Henry Hu noticed baristas spend a considerable amount of time moving cups around from work stations. Given this, Hu designed Café X to reduce waiting times and to increase efficiency.

Café X is still in development in terms of supply chains, recipes and customer support but is set to open more kiosks within the United States of America.
