Friends of East Surrey Hospital
Located in Surrey, the Friends is a volunteer-led charity, devoted to making a difference for patients, staff and visitors through provision shop sales and donations which are used to improve the hospital for everyone. Their tired provisions store was in need of modernisation to help drive up more donations to continually improve the lives of those in the hospital.
When the Friends charity first approached us, they had received generous funding to renovate their shop located in the West Wing of East Surrey Hospital. With a long-standing history of supporting the hospital, the charity wanted the shop to reflect its legacy and create a welcoming space for patients, staff, and visitors.
As a 100% volunteer-led organisation, the Friends charity depends on donations to continue its mission of improving the hospital experience. Collaborating with our design team, we developed a vision for a warm, uplifting, and functional retail space.
The goal was to create a contemporary, clean, yet inviting environment where the community could connect with the charity’s cause, support its mission, and feel inspired to contribute.
During the design consultation, it became clear that their existing branding needed a refresh to align with the new aesthetic. The Friends charity wished to maintain their brand colours and appearance but wanted to introduce a vibrant yet tasteful pattern design to help with the modernisation.
We enhanced key elements of their branding and developed a colourful pattern that complements the shop’s welcoming and uplifting atmosphere.
This modern space avoids the clinical feeling of a hospital while fostering meaningful engagement and raising funds, through the use of colourful story telling graphics to contribute to the transparency of the charity.
The strict budget imposed by the charity resulted in our team having to mindfully craft a striking yet simple design. Careful and tactical design allowed for a simplistic, vibrant and informative setting that uplifted moods through the use of colourful graphics.
Our in house team crafted adjustable shelving display units for products to help ease product restock and selection. The bespoke counter shelving maximised product display without needing to compromise on floor space. The built in refrigeration unit has intergrated an eyesore into the space seamlessly, creating a unique feature that balances the wood on the counter.
The result is a thoughtfully designed space that not only serves as a retail hub but also strengthens the connection between the community and the Friends charity’s invaluable work.
